It’s the ride for the rest of us … (again)
Due to my shift patterns, this will likely be the last Saturday ride until the end of May. The tentative date is May 31st and the planned route is around 140km. More info will appear in due course.
Anyway ….
A ride out to Pocklington and back - some interesting uppy-downy bits on the way out, but largely flat on the way back and 100% paved, for a loosely-defined definition of ‘paved’ (although the roads in East Yorkshire tend to be in pretty decent nick, not that it’s a particularly high bar to clear …)
Total distance is a shade over 50 miles, and the bulk of the climbing is in the first 20-25 miles.
Cafe stop in Pocklington or thereabouts - the original plan was to stop halfway up Kilnwick Percy bank at the World Peace cafe but I altered the route because I’m nice like that and also didn’t fancy tackling the climb on a loaded singlespeed. Main roads avoided where possible, although there’s a short bit of the A166 in Stamford Bridge, an unavoidable crossing of the A1079 at Hayto n and a stretch on the A163 Market Weighton road. The track across Skipwith Common is avoided, but if anyone does fancy it then I doubt it’s going to miraculously disappear in the next week or so.
Ride pace will be as fast as it needs to be - nobody gets left behind.
9.30 start from https://www.cycle-heaven.co.uk/ - for those who wish to indulge, bacon sandwiches, tea and cake can be obtained from the cafe from 9am. If you wish to join us en-route, let Simon know (email: simon{at}straggleurs{dot}org{dot}uk) and we’ll endeavour to accomodate you.
Routes can be downloaded from:
If you’re running a GPS unit then please try and download the route before the ride starts - that way if people get split up then at least they’ll know where to go (this is unlikely to happen, but if you fail to plan then plan to fail …)
